Carnaby Street Christmas Lights Switch On – Confetti, Costumes and Nostalgia

There is something magical about watching the Christmas Light’s be switched on, no matter where you are. I know we are supposed to be grown-up, and serious adults who think about serious things, but when I see Christmas lights, I feel like a child again, wondering what Santa will bring. I went to Carnaby Street to watch their Christmas Lights be switched on – and they certainly know how to do it in true Carnaby style.

Though I felt that the lights themselves were slightly disappointing; being rectangular signs, and not really related to Christmas at all. I kind of understood, as the theme for the lights this year was the You Say You Want A Revoution late 60s early 70s inspired by the V&A exhibt which I reviewed in a previous post.

Most of the shops around Carnaby Street were doing 20% off and there was also a Lanique cocktail bar giving free cocktails out! By the time it got to the 6pm switch-on time, the street was absolutely packed. The event was hosted by Elrow who are a completely bonkers entertainment group, who were dressed up in various ridiculous Beatles and other 60s/70s themed outfits. You couldn’t help but smile.

When the big moment came, lots of confetti was cannon-shot into the air, and with the street light-up, it looked really colourful and the athmosphere was great.

I managed to grab a bargin or two in the 20% sale in the shops before I left to go to Forest On The Roof for dinner.

A great way to spend some free time after work, and am SO ready for Christmas now!
