Lady Dinah’s Cat Emporium in Shoreditch

Lady Dinah's Cat Emporium

Just past Shorditch High Street and Brick Lane in east London is Lady Dinah’s Cat Emporium, which along with London Cat Village is one of two Cat Cafes in London. Cat Cafes originate from Taiwan and Japan and the craze has spread across the globe to our very own capital city. Essentially, this is a cafe (no meat is served of course) where cats are free to roam around the cafe, guests can stroke and play with the cats and essentially be surrounded by all things cats.

Lady Dinah’s Cat Emporium has two levels, we were downstairs which was slightly bigger than the upstairs cafe. There were lots of places for the cats to play, including a bridge, hiding holes and a tree like structure with baskets at each level.

All the cats were very well behaved. There was no meowing and they didn’t seem to mind at all that there were people there. Most weren’t really interested in being stroked, I suspect they have been stroked enough and lost interest in it. In contrast to other cat cafes and shows I’ve been to, there wasn’t a smell of litter trays. Everywhere felt clean and smelled fresh.

The cats weren’t pedigree so I assume they had been adopted from rescue centres. I wonder if you can go into a rescue centre and just take home 20 cats? Very tempting…

It wasn’t clear to me if Lady Dinah was there in the cafe or whether she is the owner, or even just a brand. But all the staff were really lovely, talking to the cats and addressing them by name, they genuinely seemed to love working there.

The verdict: 8/10 The food is simple but you are there for the experience and it’s a memorable one for sure! You can even pick up a postcard of your favourite cat to keep the memory of your visit alive when you get home.

The cats could go underneath the seats. I was on the edge so I kept seeing cats disappearing underneath like this
